Propecia - FInasteride
Propecia is a medication prescribed for men with a genetic predisposition
to hair loss. Propecia blocks type II 5-alpha reductase enzyme that
converts testosterone into dihidrotestosterone, or DHT. By doing this,
finasteride lowers the concentration of DHT in the bloodstream and helps
reduce the hormone from reaching hair follicles that are genetically
programmed to be sensitive to DHT, helping to slow or stop hair loss.

Although studies performed
by the company who makes propecia have shown that there is a 2% incidence
of side effects, before taking any kind of medication you should be
well aware of the side effects and what to do in case they occur.

The side effects noted from a scientifical study include:

  • Erectile Dysfunction (1.3%)
  • Decreased Libido (1.8%)
  • Decreased volume of ejaculation (0.8%)
  • Impotence
  • Breast tenderness or Enlargement

A group of people who have taken finasteride for several
reasons including hair loss have experienced common, mild, and some
severe side effects. The side effects they report range from slight
itching to total decrease in sexual funcion, loss of libido or sex
drive, loss of sensitivity of sexual organs, mental confusion, depression,
lack of energy, sleep disorders, among other side effects.

Other factor to take into account in finasteride side
effects is that when some patients stopped taking the medication,
some of them did not experience immediate reversal of the symptoms.
Some people from the forum have reported as much as two years after
stop taking propecia with no reversal of side effects.
